Albert S. Evanchan

January 29, 1926 — July 13, 2008

Albert S. Evanchan of 1625 George Street Ext., Hermitage, PA, died at 1:18 PM Sunday (7-13-2008) in the University Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, following an extended illness. He was 82. Mr. Evanchan was born in Etna, Pennsylvania on January 29, 1926, a son of George and Mary (Pollock) Evanchan. A 1943 graduate from Farrell High School, Al went on to serve our country in the U.S. Army as a Corporal during WWII. His decorations and citations include: the American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), Parachute Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Evanchan retired from Sharon Steel in 1986 after 40 years as a Car Blocker. He was a member of VFW Post #5286, Farrell, the Fur-Fin-Feather Club, W. Middlesex, Pennsylvania, and 3 senior bowling leagues at Sunset Lanes. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bowling. Survivors include: his daughters, Janis Hunyadi, Hermitage, PA, Mary Evanchan, Tuscon, AZ, and Alice Rice, Girard, OH; his brother, Nicholas Evanchan, Hermitage; his sisters, Dorothy Fill, Hermitage, and Mary Lou Hornyak, Sharpsville, PA; his grandchildren, Michael Hunyadi and Jennifer Rice; and his great-granddaughter, Gabrielle McCullough. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Delores "Patsy" (Yarabenetz) Evanchan, whom he married April 18, 1953, she died November 7, 1999; and by his brother, John Marovich. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday (7-17-08) at the Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, Brookfield, with Rev. Donald Berdis, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima, Farrell. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-8 PM. Burial will be in Brookfield Township Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests contributions can be made to the choice of the donor.
