Funeral services will be 10 AM Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown, OH 44503 for Arden Louise (Smith) Farragher who passed away Friday at Clare Bridge in Austintown. Arden was born June 20, 1929 in Youngstown a daughter of the late Dr. Ivan C. and Eleanor (Hogle) Smith. A graduate of The Rayen School, Arden earned her BS in Occupational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin, where she was the President of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She earned her teaching certificate from Youngstown State University and taught at East High School. She was an active lifelong member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Youngstown, where she chaired many committees, taught Sunday School, and was Senior Warden of the Vestry. Arden was Director of Rehab for Easter Seal Center for Rehabilitation, Director of Rehab for Southside Hospital, Youngstown Hospital Association, member of Junior League of Youngstown, serving as treasurer; member Board of Directors for HelpHotline Crisis Center; and a founding member of Leadership Mahoning Valley. She also served as Vice President of Farragher Marketing Services, Inc. Arden loved gardening, wild birds and birding. She loved to cook and bake, and was a master knitter. A devoted mother, loving wife, healthcare expert and dedicated community leader, Arden will be sadly missed by her husband William E. Farragher, whom she married December 29, 1951; two daughters: Kelly (Stanley) Paras of Manchester, NH and Allison (LonDel) Stairhime of Hicksville; a son Mark (Trish Moletteire) of Santa Fe, NM; a foster son Robert (Kristina) Shellenbarger of Eau Claire, WI; one brother: Ivan C. Smith Jr. of Lancaster; two sisters: Ann Sifers of Bryan, TX and Allison Sturm of Cincinnati; and eight grandchildren: Patrick Gray of Cleveland, Colin Gray of Ft. Wayne, IN, Harrison Paras of New York City, Alexander Paras of Chicago, IL, Bailee, Spencer, Kaitlyn, and Steven Shellenbarger all of Eau Claire, WI. In addition to her parents, Arden is preceded in death by a daughter Kate Farragher. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 3695 Boardman Canfield Rd, Canfield, OH 44406 or HelpHotline, PO Box 46, Youngstown, OH 44503 in Arden's name. Friends may call from 4 PM until 8 PM Monday July 12, 2010 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave, Youngstown, OH 44503 and again from 9:30 AM until 10 AM Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the church.
