Bernard Lee Putnam, 84, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Hospice House in Poland, Ohio. He was born on September 15, 1929 in Richwood, West Virginia to the late, James and Eliza (Dunlap) Putnam. Bernard retired from Republic Steel in 1986 and was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. Bernard married his wife, Manoka (King) Putnam on June 17, 1953 in Gassaway, West Virginia. He enjoyed camping with his wife, fishing, gardening, and hunting. He was the go to man when it came to getting something fixed; he could fix anything you put in front of him. Bernard loved spending time with his family and friends and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Bernard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Manoka (King) Putnam; children, Bertha "Kay" (Bill) Ansel, James (Vickie) Putnam, Deloris Greene, Harry Martin (Debi) Putnam and Lydia "Cathy" (Jeff) Corson; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 brother, James Edward Putnam; and his dog, Susie. He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers and 4 sisters. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Dr NE, from 5:00 to 7:00PM. The funeral service will be on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the funeral home at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna with full military honors being served. Donations may be made in Bernard's memory to the Hospice of the Valley, 9803 Sharrot Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
