HOWLAND TOWNSHIP-Carol Elizabeth Parish, 61, passed away at 5:20PM Wednesday, April 29, 2009 in University Hospital of Cleveland following a long battle with cancer. Carol was born on November 18, 1947, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Delores (Bean) Barnett, and grew up in Newton Falls. In her youth, she was an active Girl Scout, a member of the Lake to River Girl Scout Council, and a Girl Scout Leader at Camp Sugarbush. Carol graduated from Newton Falls High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Kent State University. She then enjoyed a 35 year career as a teacher in the Weathersfield Local School System. Carol taught special education and second grade at Seaborn Elementary School and English and Reading at Mineral Ridge Middle School. Carol loved teaching and even after retiring in 2004, continued to substitute teach regularly. Carol married Richard “Dick” Parish of Mineral Ridge on June 14, 1975. The young couple settled in Howland and soon had three sons: Jason (Michael Hyde) of Washington, D.C.; David of New York City and Michael (Nicole) of Columbus. Carol and Dick were involved in a number of community and school activities, and were members of the Mineral Ridge Church of Christ. Carol enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, traveling, collecting antiques and volunteering at Powers Auditorium. She looked forward to becoming a grandmother in the years to come. Carol is survived by her husband and three sons, her brothers Kenneth (Chloe) Barnett and Donald Barnett, her father-in-law and mother-in-law James and Audrey (Keeling) Parish of Mineral Ridge, dozens of nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends on Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 2 until 5 PM in the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 11AM with Pastor Bob Gleason officiating in the Mineral Ridge Church of Christ where friends may call again one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Kerr Cemetery, Weathersfield Township. The family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to either the Youngstown Symphony Society or the American Cancer Society.
