A memorial mass will be held on Thursday at 11 Am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Charles M. Artinger of Austintown, who passed away on Saturday afternoon at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Charles was born October 12, 1918 in Pittock, PA the son of John and Julia (Nikisher) Artinger and was a plasterer for various companies in the area for thirty-six years before working on the road crew at Penn-Dot until his retirement in 1982. A WWII Army Veteran serving in the European Theatre, Mr. Artinger was a Staff Sergeant and earned four medals for his service including the European Theatre Medal, two Bronze Stars, the Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Ribbon. He loved walking, traveling, big band music and ballroom dancing. He also loved to hunt and was an avid reader. Charles will be deeply missed by his wife of fifty-seven years the former Margaret Jacobs, whom he married July 17, 1946. He also leaves four children: Danette (Dan) Rudler of Austintown, Ruth (Lou) Cavallo of New Castle, Eric Artinger of Hawaii, and Kevin Artinger of California. Charles also leaves four brothers: Albert and Frank Artinger of McKees Rocks, Pa, and Steve and Paul Artinger of California. He also leaves four grandchildren. Four sisters: Theresa Jakes, Gloria Grejda, Julia Feydo, and Caroline Wyant, as well as a brother John Artinger, preceded him in death. A military honors interment service will held at 1:30 PM on Thursday at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH.
