Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel for Donald E. Sampson, Sr. of 604 Dakota Ave., Niles who died Thursday afternoon at home. Donald was born Sept. 24, 1934 in Chardon, OH. A son of Ralph and Dorothy Loveland Sampson. He worked for Peerless Electric for 13 years and then for 28 years for General Motors in maintenance retiring 1994. He was a 1953 graduate of Windham High School where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Basketball and Football in 1998. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Niles. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, and family gatherings. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his Mother Dorothy Mattson of Mentor, OH; a Stepmother Claudine Sampson of Langley, SC; his wife Loretta Ann Luknis Sampson whom he married July 20, 1957; two sons Donald E., Jr. and his wife Barbara of Mineral Ridge and Jeffrey D. and his wife Tammy of McDonald; two half sisters Gayle Mattson Han of Trumbull, CT and Linda Pennington of Mentor, OH; a half brother Boris Harold Sampson of Florida; and four grandchildren Matthew Sampson and Amber Sampson of Mineral Ridge and William Alexander Heath Sampson and Abigail Sampson of McDonald.
