Memorial services will be held at 2:30pm Saturday, March 6 at the Canfield Presbyterian Church for Doris E. Ockerman, 96, who died Saturday afternoon at Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Poland. She was born December 6, 1913 in Chicago, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Palowitz) Mackovick. She was a 1934 graduate of Youngstown South High School and she spent her adult life as a homemaker raising and caring for her family. She was a longtime member of the Canfield Presbyterian Church. She was also a founding member of the Canfield Womens Club, a member of the Canfield Shade Tree and Park Association, she volunteered with the Red Cross for 35 years, and she was honored as 1974�s Woman of The Year by the Canfield Community Club. She had many hobbies and interests, including knitting blankets for premature babies at Tod Children�s Hospital, needlework, gardening, portrait painting, and bird watching. She married George R. Ockerman August 21, 1936 and he preceded her in death January 18, 1999. She is survived by a daughter, Jean L. (Robert) Gallaway of Good Thunder, MN; three grandchildren; Nanette (David) Hartup of Cincinnati; Aaron Gallaway of Englewood, FL; and Erik (Dawn) Gallaway of Fort Wayne, IN; and three great grandchildren; Nick, Emily, and Tyler. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a brother Stephen. Friends may call for one hour prior to services from 1:30-2:30pm Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Canfield Presbyterian Church in Doris and her husband George�s memory, to the First Presbyterian Church in Youngstown in memory of the Ockerman and Woods families, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel.
