There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Austintown for Edward S. Gerberry, of Austintown, who passed away Wednesday morning at Hospice House, due to complications from a fall at home. Ed was born August 10, 1923 in Youngstown a son of the late Andrew and Veronica (Pustai) Gerberry. He graduated in 1941 from Woodrow Wilson High School, and was on the Class of ’41 Reunion Committee. He served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant during WWII, in the 6th Armored Division of the 50th Armored Infantry Battalion in the European Theatre. Ed fought in the Battle of the Bulge. During his military service he earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After returning from war, Ed graduated from Youngstown College in 1950. He was currently a self employed accountant, and had previously worked at the East Ohio Lumber Company in Warren. He was a faithful member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where he was an usher, and former member of the church finance committee and church council. Ed was a member of VFW Post 4237 and American Legion Post 301, both in Austintown; was a Democrat Precinct Committeeman, and a volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. His wife, the former Erma Timko, whom he married July 17, 1948 passed away June 30, 1995. Ed is survived by three sons: James (Linda) Gerberry of Mineral Ridge, Ron (Kathy) Gerberry of Austintown, and Michael (Donna) Gerberry of Austintown; a brother John “Jack” Gerberry of Poland; eight grandchildren: Steven (Stacie), David (Carla), Sarah, Deanna, Ron Jr., Dan, Patrick, and Christopher; and a great granddaughter Megan. Besides his parents and wife, Ed is preceded in death by a son Richard, a brother Joseph, and a sister Mary Gerberry. Friends may call from 4 PM until 8 PM Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel. Closing prayers will be recited at 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home, prior to processing to church. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church building fund or Hospice House in Ed’s name. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for him during this difficult time.
