Elinor Waters Holley, age 88 of Cortland, Ohio, died on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 10:05 PM at her home. She was born on September 12, 1925, in Colebrook, Ohio, the daughter of the late Theodore B. and Elizabeth "Bess" Nims Waters. Mrs. Holley was a wife, mother, and grandmother, who deeply cared for and took care of her family. She was in many organizations throughout the years, including the Mahoning Valley Chapter of Ex-POW, Faith United Methodist Church-Faith Circle, and the Windsor Historical Society. She also volunteered at Maplewood Elementary School as a teacher's aide. Elinor was a volunteer for the Ohio Reads-Stars Program, and also was the Head Volunteer for 30 years plus for the Geauga Community Hospital in Chardon, Ohio. Mrs. Holley loved to garden. Mrs. Holley was also the sole owner of the Lake Knoll Development Company for 15 years. Survivors include her husband, Eugene E. "Gene" Holley, whom she married on October 7, 1944; seven children, Paul R. (Elaine) Holley of Ashburn, VA, Russell E. Holley of Columbia, MD, Sue Ann (Phillip) Suarez of Salem, Dan Alan Holley of Mentor, Craig W. (Lydia) Holley of Sewickley, PA, Hugh R. (Joanne) Holley of Diamond, and Mark D. Holley of Warren; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; her siblings, Barbara Noble of Arlington, MA, David (Pat) Waters of Raliegh, NC, and Kenneth (Dorothy) Waters of Mount Airy, NC. Private memorial services will be held at a later date and all arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland. Burial of her cremated remains will take place in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
