George D. "Whitey" McCaslin, 91 of Southington, died Sunday evening, November 9, 2014, at his home. He was born December 13, 1922 in Warren, the son of the late George D. and Alene Weber McCaslin Sr. He was a lifetime Trumbull county resident. Whitey was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. He then served in the Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II as a gunners mate and was stationed in the Philippines and Alaska. He worked for many years in truck body repair, retiring from Ohio Fast Freight in 1987. Whitey was a member of Central Christian Church, the BPO Elks Lodge No. 295 and the American Legion Clarence Hyde Post in Warren. He enjoyed golfing, mowing the yard, feeding the birds and birdwatching. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Norman) Alessi of Ann Arbor; two sons, Richard (Pat) McCaslin of Wellington and Michael (Linda) McCaslin of Southington; four grandchildren, Jacqueline, Vincent, Matthew and Erin; one sister, Colleen Ribarich of Youngstown and one brother, Ray McCaslin of Hendersonvillle, NC. His wife of 65 years, MaryLouise Barnoff McCaslin, whom he married January 13, 1947 preceded him in death October 6, 2012. One brother, state Senator Robert McCaslin and one sister, Carol Montgomery also both preceded in death. Private family funeral services will be held Thursday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren. Inurnment will be at the Central Christian Church columbarium. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund at Central Christian Church, 2051 East Market St., Warren, OH 44483.
