Maurice H. Backus

Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Maurice H. Backus of Lisbon Rd. Canfield who died Saturday evening in Canonsburg Hospital. Mr. Backus was born October 28, 1931 in New York. He was employed as a meteorologist for the Weather Bureau for 30 years retiring in 1982. Maurice was an avid Harness Horseman belonging to the United States Trotters Association, Canfield Harness Horseman Association, Meadowlands Standard Bred Owners Association and the Christian Harness Horseman Association. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air force He will be sadly missed by his wife Daun (Kelsey) Backus whom he married Aug. 28, 1971 and his friends and neighbors. Mr. Backus is also survived by five sons Gary, Mark, John, Matthew and Robert. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Canfield
