Robert "Bob" E. Philips of Vienna, passed away Thursday morning September 8, 2011 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. He was born on October 10, 1921 in North Jackson, OH the son of the late John F. & Annie (Gerald) Philips and was a lifetime area resident. Bob graduated from Vienna High School and went on to serve as a Corporal with the 1st Division of the United States Army during World War II. He participated in campaigns in Sicily, the D-Day landings at Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes, and in Central Europe. For his service to our country he received the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with six Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. Following his return from overseas, Bob married the former Elizabeth E. Quimbly on September 14, 1946 and with her would share more than fifty-one years of marriage. During this time Bob became involved with his family's business the Philips Farm Market in Vienna. He later took over and became the owner operator of Philips Market and eventually retired from Sparkle Market Corporation in Cortland and Champion with more than forty years of service. He is survived by his daughter Marianne Fenstermaker and her husband Hugh of North Bloomfield, several nieces and nephews and his Special Friend Rosemary Smith. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, brothers John and William Philips, sisters Mildred Philips and Mary Riley, and his niece Donna Gayan. A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM on Monday September 12, 2011 at the Madasz Funeral Chapel in Brookfield, OH. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be with his wife at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna. As an expression of sympathy the family requests that contributions be made to either the Vienna Township Fire Department or to the Vienna United Methodist Church.
