Robert J. McElroy, 86, of Austintown, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon at his residence. He was born April 12, 1924 in Niles, the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Mitchell) McElroy, and he resided in this area all of his life. He was a 1943 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WW II. He worked as a tool and die setter for the Packard Electric Corp. in Warren for 41 years before retiring. He was a member of the Warren YMCA where he was very active. He was also an avid golfer and he enjoyed working in his yard. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Marjorie James, whom he married February 12, 1958. He also leaves behind a son, Richard (Mary Hall) McElroy of Austintown; a niece, Sandra Moore; and a nephew, David Moore, both of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Darryl McElroy, and a sister, Thelma Moore. There are no services or calling hours.
