Ruth N. Preston

Services will be 11 AM Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Ruth N. Preston, 87, of Youngstown formerly of Cortland. Ruth was born January 22, 1921 in Niles the daughter of Howard and Gertrude Battles. Ruth was a 1939 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and worked for Republic Steel in Niles, Warren and Youngstown as a Shipping Clerk, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Niles and the Niles Moose Club. Ruth was and avid bowler and was inducted in the Warren Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2001. She also enjoyed playing softball and had been a softball coach for about 40 years, as well as an avid Indians fan. Her husband Gerald Preston whom she married in 1950, passed away April 4, 1999. Ruth leaves several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Ruth is preceded in death by a brother; Ralph Battles. Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 AM Monday at the funeral home.
