Austintown, OH- Funeral services will be held 10am Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austintown for William G. “Sarge” Proverbs Jr., age 74 of Stark Dr., who died Saturday evening in the Emergency Room of Forum Health Northside Hospital. William was born July 17, 1930 in Youngstown, Oh and was the son of William A. and Velma (Stark) Proverbs Sr. He had retired in 1992 after 50 years as a Mason for Bricklayers Local # 8 in Youngstown. He was a Veteran of the Korean War having served in the Marines. William was a member of the church, and was a active member of the Saxon Club, where he served as recording secretary for many years. He was the Man of the Year in 2000, member of the Saxon Club Bocce League, and was formerly a member of the Bill Strayley Band as a piano player during the big band era. He loved to garden and paint. His will be cherished by his wife, the former Marilyn Hohing whom he married January 19, 1951., daughters Paula (Greg) Patoray of Austintown, Sharon (David) Smith of Ada, OH, sister Nancy (Dennis) Clever of Austintown, a brother Richard (LaVina) Proverbs of Canfield, sister-in-law Ellen Proverbs of North Jackson, five grandchildren Christopher (Shannon), Lauren, Jillian, Benjamin, and Joshua, and a great granddaughter Ashleigh. William was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Thomas Proverbs. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8PM at the Lane Funeral Home-Austintown Chapel and one hour prior to services Wed. at Church. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Four Mile Run Cemetery
