William Ruby, "Dean", of Austintown, went to his heavenly reward on Monday, September 21, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Health Center, after 88 years of robust health followed by one year of illness. Always known as "Dean", he was born on February 17, 1927 in Six Mile Run, PA, son of the late Jesse Eldon and Elizabeth Henryetta Rabenstein Ruby. He enlisted in the US Army, serving in WWII, in Nuremburg, Germany. He was proud to have been a US Army veteran. He earned his living as a coal miner in Robertsdale, PA, and as a welder, and steel worker for Youngstown Steel Door Company. He married his bride, the former Nevada A. Bollman on November 9, 1947 and became her "rock", and the foundation of the family that grew for many generations. They spent 68 years of wonderful marriage together. Dean will be missed by his family, church family, and friends. His interests revolved around his church family, at Grace Church of the Nazarene, hunting, and fishing, especially with his sons, and his ever prized vegetable garden. The void left by his absence will be not only known and felt by his wife, but also his children, Donna Swope of Bedford, PA, John (Patty) Ruby of Austintown, David (Elaine) Ruby of Canfield, Geraldine (James) Thomas of Meridian, MS, Edith Slusher of Lake Milton, Dwayne "Bud" (Connie) Ruby, of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Nevada Elizabeth Chalfant of Youngstown; his 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren. He is truly is the end of an era. His five brothers also survive him, Charles, Lester, Max, Vaughn, and Norman Ruby. Other than his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his two brothers, Lawrence and Donald Ruby; one sister, Blanche Woodring; one granddaughter, Alyson Anderson; one great-great-granddaugher, Kyndal Grace Foor; and three sons-in-law, Don Swope, Ken Slusher, Sr., and Robert Chalfant, Sr. Funeral services will be held at the Grace Church of the Nazarene, 5253 West Webb Road, Austintown, Ohio 44515 at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 26, 2015 where Rev. Robert Donato will celebrate Dean's life. Family and friends may visit at the Lane Family Funeral Homes-Austintown Chapel from 5-7 PM, Friday, September 25, 2015. Burial will take place in the Brunstetter Cemetery, Austintown, Ohio.
