William H. Hall

Services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for William H. Hall, 83, who passed away Friday at Hospice House. William was born March 5, 1927 in Youngstown the son of Henry and Alice (Patterson) Hall and was a lifelong area resident. He attended Jackson Elementary School and went to Woodrow Wilson High School. In the 11th grade at Wilson he enlisted in the Navy Reserves in 1944. Serving in the Navy Seabee 29th Navel Construction Battalion in the Philippine Islands in 1945, and on Truk Attoll in the Caroline Island's, upon being discharged from the Navy Seabee's in 1946, he went back to Woodrow Wilson and graduated in January 1947. In 1947 he started working at U.S. Steel in the machine shop, and in 1951 after leaving U.S. Steel, Bill started working as an Apprentice Bricklayer with Bucheit Construction Company, and the Bricklayers Union Local #8 of Youngstown. After 50 years as a bricklayer he received a Life Member Gold Card in 2001, of Local #8 and the Allied Craftsmen of America. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Scottish Clan MacDonald of Youngstown, WWII Navy Seabee and the U.S. Navy Seabee Island #8 in Youngstown, the F&A.M. Hillman Lodge #481, now the Wick Lodge #481 since 1963, Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown 32nd Degree, a member of the Shiners' Al Koran Temple of Cleveland, the Youngstown Shrine Club, that he loved and served on the board of directors of for 5 years. He also served on the board of directors of the Crescent Company and was a driver for the Shriner's Children's Hospital for 15 years and the Clothing Salesman for the Youngstown Shrine Club for over 5 years. He was a former member of the Aut Mori Grotto for about 20 years. Bill was very proud to be a member of the Property's Committee at the Boy Scout Camp Stambaugh in Canfield for many years and received the Silver Beaver Award in 2005 from the Greater Western Reserve Counsel, Boy Scouts of America. He also received the National Endowment Award from the Boy Scouts of America in 2004. Bill loved Sports, an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan as well as Ohio State. He was also an avid bowler with many different leagues around the Youngstown area. He loved being with friends and playing golf in leagues with the VFW of Struthers, the Argus Golf League, and was proud to have a hole in one at Diamond Back Golf Course. Most of all William loved being with his children and grandchildren whom he adored. His wife the former Donna Cole, whom he married July 29, 1977, passed away October 2009. William leaves six children; Norma Bones of Boardman, Carol Kirschke of North Lima, Jean Cleghorn of Houston, TX, James Hall of Boardman, Dorothy Hall of Seaside, OR, and Scott Hall of Houston, TX, two step-children; Jeffery Gibson of Akron and Cheryl Haid of Berlin Center, as well as 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild; Sydney Jennell Johnson. Besides his parents and wife, William is preceded in death by two sisters; Grace Harker and Ellen Haag. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday and again from 10 to 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
