Alexander T. Moldovan, 74, passed away at Washington Square Nursing Facility on May 8, 2019. Alex was born on June 27, 1944 in Warren to Alex & Eugenia "Jennie" (Podar) Moldovan. Alex proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge he spent his career working for Copperweld Steel. On January 14, 1978, Alex was united in marriage to the former Nancy K. Layshock who preceded him in death on January 8, 2011. An avid sports fan, Alex loved the Ohio State Buckeyes as well as cheering for the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. Casinos attracted the adventurous side of Alex, and when he was at the tables he was frequently heard saying "Let it Ride". Alex was a proud veteran, a devoted husband, loving father and papa, he will be missed. Alex is survived by his daughter Heather (Nicholas "Nick" J. III) Caesar, his son Richard J. (Michelle) Nochta; his grandchildren Oliver & Gus Nochta and Nicholas J. Caesar IV; his sisters-in-law Theresa Bartlett and Deborah Christ. Visitation for Alex will be held on Monday May 13, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Lane Funeral Homes; Shafer-Winans Chapel, Cortland, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 5:00 p.m. Following the service friends are invited to join the family at Avalon at Squaw Creek starting at 6:00 p.m. Following cremation, burial with military honors will be held at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Washington Square Veterans Wing.
