There will be a memorial service at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 2nd. at Canfield Presbyterian Church for Alta ''Liz'' Cummings of 113 Fairview Ave. who passed away Sunday morning at St. Mary's Nursing Home. Alta Margaret Bancroft Cummings was born August 8, 1914 in Youngstown, a daughter of William Earl Bancroft and Alta Mae Norris. She was a graduate of Canfield High School, attended Case Western Reserve University, and graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, majoring in French in 1936. She began her teaching career in Plymouth, Ohio, then taught English and French at Jackson Milton High School prior to WWII. During WWII she taught at Austintown Fitch, and was married to William R. Cummings and gave up teaching upon his return from the Pacific in 1946 to start a family. Following her husbands death in 1965, she returned to teaching English at Poland then Canfield Junior High School until her retirement in 1976. She was much beloved by her students. Mrs. Cummings was a long time member of Canfield Presbyterian Church, Sigma Sigma, Sigma Sorority, the Audubon Society, and the Children's Aid Society of Mercer, PA. Her hobbies included golf, walking, and weather watching. She was preceded in death by her Husband, two sisters: Virginia Corll and Marian Glenn, and a brother Norman Bancroft. She is survived by her son Thomas F. Cummings of Canfield, a sister Shirley Wehr of Salem, and a brother William Bancroft of Canfield.\ In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity in Mrs. Cummings name
