Barbara A. Watkins, 68, of Chardon, died early Sunday morning, August 4th, at Austinwoods Nursing Center in Austintown.
She was born April 10, 1956 in Stafford, CT, a daughter of Kalman and Violet (Orban) Adorjan.
Barbara was a 1974 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and went on to earn a Master's Degree in English from Youngstown State University. She then returned to YSU and achieved her RHIT in medical coding. She worked as a coder for more than 25 years for several area hospitals including Geauga, Heather Hill in Chardon, and most recently University Hospitals, prior to retiring in August of last year.
She married Richard W. Watkins, Jr. on November 20, 1982. They shared 32 years of marriage and many happy memories together. He preceded her in death November 8, 2014.
Barbara was a member of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Fairport Harbor. She was also a member of AHIMA, the American Health Information Management Association. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, and she loved her cats. Barbara also loved to sing and did so with the Geauga County Hunger Task Force for twenty years.
She is survived by a brother, Kalman (Sue) Adorjan, of Canfield and a sister, Eva (William) Pugh, of Mineral Ridge. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins, including her cousin Monica Orban Schnaidman, who was more like a sister.
Besides her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 8th, at the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel, 1350 N. Canfield Niles Rd., Mineral Ridge.
Friends may call 5-7 PM Wednesday, August 7th and one hour prior to services from 10-11 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
Barbara will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in the Niles Union Cemetery.
