Johnston (Gustavus) Township- Bette Gae Lee Denman, age 88 passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Bette was born in Gustavus on March 25, 21936 to the late Billy (Elva) and Farrell Lee. She was a graduate of Gustavus High School and Warren Business School. She was employed by Landmark Farm Bureau until her marriage to the love of her life, the late, Davis W. Denman. Upon marrying Davis on June 21, 1958, she moved to Louisiana and then Texas as an Air Force spouse. She and Davis returned to DenmanDale Farms in 1963, where she lived until her death.
During her lifetime Bette was an active member of Johnston Federated United Methodist Church, kept the books for the family farm, enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, was an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress and chef. With her magic oven, she was a baker of the best pies, cookies, and pastries.
As Grandma, Bette enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s concerts, plays, and sporting activities.
Besides her parents, Bette is preceded in death by her husband, Davis, sisters Patricia (Lee) Mundt, and Joy (Lee) Bickel, daughter-in-law Nicole Denman, and her beloved granddaughter Kathryn Denman. She is survived by her sister Shirley (Lee) Glover; her children Darlene Denman (Jim Jones), Robin Denman (Mike Logan), Daniel (Marya) Denman, Dee Denman (Frank Susan), and Davis W. Denman, Jr; her grandchildren Crystal Truskey (Drew), Carey Denman, Daniel (Alexis) Denman, Julia Denman and Laura Denman; her great-grandson Thomas Truskey
Friends may call from 10-11:30AM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Lane Funeral Homes Shafer -Winan’s Chapel 164 N High St. in Cortland, where the funeral service will follow at 11:30AM with Pastor Steve Garces officiant. Interment in Johnston Township Cemetery to follow.
