YOUNGSTOWN-There will be a Memorial Service at 4 p.m. Sunday at Lane Family Funeral Homes-Anstrom Chapel, 8387 Tod Ave. in Boardman for Betty June Hammond, 90, who passed away Wednesday afternoon at Ohio Living at Park Vista. Betty was born May 14, 1928 in Wind Ridge, PA, a daughter of Allen Harlan and Lydia Finnegan Headley. She was a home-maker and also had been a Medical Lab Technician at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Betty graduated from Richill High School and attended Waynesburg College, Medical Technology School in Cleveland and YSU. She was a member of Faith Community Covenant Church, where she was a past president of the church, a member of the Womens Fellowship, the Fortress Class and a Sunday school teacher for many years. Betty was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts, a member of the Happy Seniors Bowling League and an avid golfer. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who loved "GMAs" cooking. Bettys husband of 64 years, Donald J. Hammond, Sr., whom she married Oct. 28, 1950, died Nov. 30, 2014. Betty is survived by her children, Linda (Tom) Bianchi of Bryson City, NC, Marla Guthrie of Tampa, FL, Mark Hammond of Mesa, AZ, Russell (Tracey) Hammond of Boylston, MA and Donald Hammond, Jr. of Yuma, AZ; her sister, Shirley (Ron) Beckham of Columbiana; her brother, Allen Harlen Headley, Jr. of Wind Ridge, PA; her grandchildren, Sunni Marie (Javier) DeGracia, A.J. Bruno, Quinn Bruno, Nate (Daniella) Hammond, Nicholas Hammond and Hannah Hammond and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her son, Gregory; her sisters, Ruth Crooks, Ruby Hughes and Esther Kubico; her brother, Harry Headley and her cousin, Howard Headley, who was raised with her as a brother. The family would like to thank the staff at Part Vista for their compassionate care and concern for Betty. Friends may call from 3-4 p.m. Sunday prior to the Service at the funeral home.
