Betty A. Stanko, 94, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, surrounded by family, at Briarfield Place, following a brief illness.

Betty was born July 19, 1929, in Youngstown, a daughter of Michael and Marie (Butchko) Mrofchak. She was a lifelong area resident.

Betty and her husband Michael raised their family of four children and found room in their hearts to care for thirteen foster children. Together, Betty and Mike founded Gem’s Pottery & Gifts. She was a hard worker and very involved with day-to-day operations of the store. Betty was a member of the American Businesswomen for more than forty years. 

She was a parishioner of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, in Campbell, where she was very active in the church. She was a member, and former president, of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, former president of the Diocesan Infant Guild, past president of the Greek Catholic Union (GCU) Lodge # 360 and Supreme Tribal Council of GCU. 

Betty was involved with the Democratic Party, a poll worker and belonged to the Federated Democratic Women Club of Ohio. 

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory her children Gary (Margaret) Stanko of Canfield, Michael (Linda) Stanko of Poland, Ed Stanko of Boardman, and Susan (Rob) Fritch of Poland; grandchildren Renee English, Gary (Ashley) Stanko and Jennifer (Eric) Anticola, Greg and Nicholas (Elise) Stanko, and Anthony (Hillary) Harding; and great grandchildren Preston and Gavin English, Layla and Logan Stanko, Vera and Ava Anticola, and Otto Harding

The Stanko family will receive family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2024, and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, 463 Robinson Rd., Campbell, Ohio, 44405. A Funeral Divine Liturgy, concelebrated by Father Kevin Marks and Father Mykhaylo Farynets, will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to those who cared for Betty at Briarfield Place and Sanctuary Hospice during her time of need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church Raise the Roof Fund in Betty’s honor.
