Beverly May Beach, 87 of Cortland, died Sunday morning, June 4, 2017, at Hospice House in Poland. She was born December 25, 1929 in Oil City, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late George and Arvilla Brown Sloss. Beverly was a 1948 graduate of Rocky Grove (Pa.) High School. Besides being a homemaker to her husband and three sons, she completed courses to become a nurse's aid, provided childcare and worked at the nutrition site of Cortview Apartments in Cortland for the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs, retiring after 22 years of service. She also helped her husband, Bud, at their service station, Beach's Sunoco in Cortland in the 1970's. Beverly had been an active member of Cortland Trinity Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible school and served with her husband, Walter as an Awana youth helper/leader. More recently she was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Cortland. She enjoyed bargain hunting, gardening, canning, traveling and reading. Beverly's favorite moments were spent with her family and they remember her as a loving, caring, generous spiritual influence. Her husband of nearly 44 years, Walter James "Bud" Beach, whom she married September 5, 1948 preceded her in death May 19, 1992. One son, Alan D. Beach preceded her in death on May 7, 2017 as well as two brothers, George "Sonny" Sloss and Gerald Sloss. Surviving Beverly are two sons, Gary L. (Gladys) Beach of Champion and Walter G. (Kathy) Beach of Amherst; four grandchildren, Lee (Stacy) Beach, Chad (Amanda) Beach, Jeremy (Chelsea) Beach and Alyssa (Dan) Hazlett II; three great grandchildren, Mikayla, Mary Renae and Carter; one sister, Shirley Hays of Rocky Grove, Pa. and one brother, Richard "Dick" Sloss of Oregon. The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Calvary Bible Church in Cortland, where the family will receive friends from 4:30 until the 6 p.m. service time. Pastor William Aiken will officiate. Interment will be private at Graham Cemetery in Congress Hill, Pa. Arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland.
