A 1955 graduate from Brookfield High School, Bruce furthered his education by attending classes at Youngstown State University. During the 1970's, Bruce was an Assistant Scoutmaster for the Boy Scout Troop # 62, Brookfield, and during the late 1960's, he taught guitar lessons at Kings Music, Sharon. Bruce was a man of many talents and loves. He enjoyed writing poetry, woodworking, carving, and spending time in his flower gardens. He was well known for his building and marksmanship with muzzle loading rifles. He was an avid hunter & fisherman. He played many musical instruments and enjoyed attending as many blue grass festivals as he could, playing with the "Grass Stains Band". Most of all, family was important to him. "Bud" Shaffer & his wife Maria, Yankee Lake, OH, Dale R. "Chip" Shaffer & his wife Kathleen, Brookfield, and his daughter, Melissa L. "Missy" Mensurati & her husband Jerry, Brookfield; a doting grandfather to his grandchildren, Jessica Shaffer, Emily Mensurati, and Josh Hamder; and big brother to his sister, Barbara A.
