Therefore what God has joined together let not man separate. (Matthew 19:6)

Carl Lee Gump joined his beloved wife and best friend Mary Belle (Sheppard) Gump in heaven on Friday September 13th, 2024. Carl was born May 2nd, 1940, and Mary was born March 5th, 1942, they were both born and raised in Fairview, West Virginia. They met in primary school and attended through graduation, from Fairview High School in 1958 and 1960 respectively.

Carl and Mary were married on August 21st, 1962 surrounded by family and friends. Carl then pursued a career with Murphy Mart that spanned 35 years and 4 different states. Mary was with him every step of the way as his partner and steadfast homemaker.

Carl and Mary moved to Austintown, Ohio in 1978, where they made their home and raised their three children; Bryan (Megan) Gump of Cuyahoga Falls, Kevin (Heather) Gump of Girard, and Tara Gump of Austintown. Carl later changed careers and worked for True 2 Form Auto Body in Austintown where Mary joined him in the front office for the last 10 years of their careers and from which they both retired.

In retirement, Carl and Mary spent many enjoyable times with their 11 grandchildren; Katie, Lauren, Trevor, Cameron, McKenna, Jonathan, Haeden, Jordan, Ryan, Justin, and Jackson. They were loyal supporters of all their grandchildren’s athletic and academic endeavors, while never forgetting a birthday. Both Carl and Mary were active members of Western Reserve United Methodist Church where Carl sang in the choir for many years.

Carl and Mary enjoyed gardening, watching many Ohio sports, and WVU Basketball. They also enjoyed trips back to West Virginia and even a cross-country road trip to the Grand Canyon while visiting family along the way. Most of all, their favorite pastime was sitting and visiting on the front porch.

Mary passed away unexpectedly on April 14th,2024 and was joined by Carl 5 months later, whom passed peacefully at home surrounded by family. There will be no services per their wishes and with a private family memorial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider registering with or donating to Lifebanc as both Carl and Mary were proud tissue donors.
