Mecca - Carolyn gained her wings on June 5, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. Carolyn Jean Henson was born on August 2, 1942 in South Charleston, W.Va. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree of Elementary Education from West Virginia University and quickly got a job at McGuffy Elementary in Warren, Ohio, where she met Ronald Joseph Urchek.
Carolyn would go on to marry Ron, July 22, 1967, where they moved to Mecca and had two children. Carolyn’s teaching career had continued at Lakeview Middle and Elementary Schools in Cortland, Ohio where she retired after 31 years of teaching. Her love of children continued to show through her community and to her grandchildren even after her retirement.
Arts and crafts were Carolyn’s second love of life. She enjoyed sharing her love of crafting and gardening with her children, children’s friends and grandchildren. She painted and quilted with her friends. Carolyn’s love of gardening was her longest legacy though. She had many garden areas on her property and each with their own unique flare. She loved colors all year round and made sure that each section of her gardens were not wasted without a splash of color.
She is precedented in death by her mother, Marjorie Chenoweth Henson; her father, Harold Henson; and her brother, Harold Dana Henson. She leaves behind her husband, Ronald Urchek; her daughter, Shelley Urchek-Geist; her son, Matt Urchek (Jessica Young Urchek); and her five grandchildren: Kayle Geist, Kylie Geist, Claire Urchek, Cole Urchek, and Case Urchek.
The family requests that instead of donations, that you honor Carolyn by planting a colorful perennial or donate a book in her name.
