Catherine Jane Abbey

Catherine 'Jane' (Lutton) Abbey, age 81, of Cortland, Ohio, died from Alzheimers on Saturday, September 23, 2006, while surrounded by her family at the Cortland Health Care Center. She was born on October 9, 1924 in Warren, OH., the daughter of the late Robert Lutton and the late Jean Griffin Lutton. Mrs. Abbey had worked at the Hopkins Pharmacy for many years, but dedicated most of her life to raising her family. She was a member of the St. Roberts Catholic Church and belonged to the Pymatuning Sailing Club. She enjoyed walking and had belonged to a Bridge Club where she would spend time with her dear friends. Jane will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. Her husband, John Abbey, whom she married on May 11, 1946, preceded her in death on December 8, 1999. She is survived by three sons, John (Nancy) Abbey of Florida, Thomas (Stephanie) Abbey of Cortland and Timothy (Patty) Abbey of Warren. Five daughters, Jo-Anne (Harry) Nass of Cortland, Elizabeth (Mark) Wajda of Columbus, Jane (Jody) Abbey-Johnson of Florida, Katherine (Bill) Makosky of Cortland, and Karen (Ed) Kubic of Cortland. Also surviving are nineteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband John and a son Robert Abbey. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 North High Street, Cortland, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, September 26, 2006. Funeral service will be at St. Roberts Church, 4659 Niles Cortland Rd, Cortland, Ohio, at 2:30 PM Wednesday, September 27, 2006. Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, Ohio.
