Catherine "Kay" Orenchak, age 100 of Masury, died on Sunday morning, November 6, 2016, at her home in Masury. She was born May 21, 1916 in New Alexandria, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Nick and Mary Mackowycz Orenchak. After high school, Kay served in the Womens' Army Air Corps (WACS) as a staff sergeant during World War II. She continued to make the Army a career serving at several U.S. air bases around the world with the Stategic Air Command, until her retirement. Following military retirement, she also worked for the government overseas during her civilian life, working as an accounting clerk and budget analyst for 28 years. Kay was an active member of St. John's Ukranian Orthodox Church in Sharon, where she was a member of the St. John's Sisterhood. Her passion was traveling which she loved. She enjoyed gardening and painting on canvas. She is survived by five nieces and six nephews. Kay was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Filipovich and Ann DeMay and four brothers, Michael, Charles, Andy and John Orenchak. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel in Brookfield, where memorial prayers will be said at 7:45 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 389 Clark Street, Sharon, Pa., with Fr. Andrew Gall officiating. Burial will be at Brookfield Twp. Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Ukranian Orthodox Church in Kay's memory.
