Bazetta - Charles E. Winch, 84, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, OH. Charles was born on May 31, 1933 son of the late Charles D. Winch and Blanche O. (Householder) Winch. He was a 1951 graduate of Howland High School and continued his education at Rutgers University obtaining a degree in Agronomy. Charles began his golf career at nine years old as a caddie before joining the grounds crew at Trumbull Country Club. He worked at multiple golf courses before becoming the Superintendent of Brookside Country Club in Canton, OH, where he met his wife, the former Eleanor Ann Dominick whom he married on September 3, 1955. In 1958, Charles and Eleanor purchased property in Cortland, Ohio and designed and built Tamer Win Golf and Country Club. They ultimately fulfilled their dream of owning and operating their own golf course which opened May 27, 1961. Charles and Eleanor shared the many duties of owning a public golf course until their retirement in 1992, leaving the family business to the next generation, Debbie and Charles D. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) and NE Section of Ohio (GCSAA). An avid outdoorsman he was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), a member of Vienna Fish and Game Club, Greenville Sportsman Club and How Kola Hunt Club. He loved hunting small game, trap shooting and skeet shooting. He also enjoyed golfing and dancing the Jitter Bug with his wife. It was not unusual to see Charlie at area gyms either watching his son, Charlie or grandchildren playing basketball or volleyball. He will be deeply missed by his children: Deborah (Alfred) Rura of Howland, OH and Charles D. (Lisa) Winch of Cortland, OH; six grandchildren: Matthew (Amanda) Rura of Cortland, OH, Michelle Rura of Stow, OH, Melissa Rura of Howland, OH, Ronald E.
