Charles Robert Vross, 70, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Hospital Main Campus. He was born April 28, 1949 in Youngstown, the son of Andrew and Anne (Shemunovich) Vross. He was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of South High School. Charles served in the US Navy upon the USS John Paul Jones (DDG 32) from 1969 to 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1975. Most knew him as Charlie, a quiet man who was proud of the city he grew up in and of St. Patrick’s Church, which was where he was baptized in 1949 and remained as an involved parishioner. He loved trains, taking walks in Mill Creek Park and snapping wisecracks with his coffee buddies. He was an honored Veteran and often fondly spoke of his time in the Navy. Charlie and his daughter loved listening to The Beach Boys and attending antique car shows together. They finished their outings by eating chili dogs and hot wings with a cold glass of ginger ale. He was always at his happiest during these times. Charlie retired in 2011 from Youngstown Tool and Die after 37 years of service. He leaves behind his daughter, Kymberly Vross (Derek Hilland) of Westlake Village, CA, his sister Patricia Carr and niece Daphne Carr, both of Youngstown. Besides his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his brother Tony Eli Zanic. A service celebrating the life of Charles Robert Vross will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in his honor to St. Patrick’s Church of Youngstown.
