Clarence Dayner, age 87, of Cortland, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Mahoning Valley Hospital, Trumbull Campus in Warren, Ohio, after a long hard fight and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born on December 16, 1922 in Belle Vernon, PA, the third child of the late Frank Dayner and the late Mary Flading Dayner. Clarence was a graduate of Belle Vernon High and faithfully served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was employed by the United Telephone Co. where he had worked as a Foreman for 20 years before retiring in 1965. Two of his greatest joys were watching the Pittsburg Steelers play football and golf on TV. Clarence will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 35 years, Marge Plevel Dayner, whom he married on February 1, 1975 and by two daughters, Sheryl (Jim) Majka of Cortland, OH and Dawn Lach of Stow, OH. Also surviving are four grandchildren whom he loved and adored, Alicia (Michael) Konopinski, Leah Majka and Derek and Amber Lach, his adopted grandchildren, Josh and Lauren Daniels as well as a great grandson, Colton Konopinski. Clarence was preceded in death by his first wife, Flossie Gale Dayner in June of 1974. He was also preceded by his brother, Howard Dayner and his sister, Thelma Catrino. The family wishes to give special thanks to Father Carl Kish of St. Robert Parish, the nurses and staff of the Mahoning Valley Hospital, Trumbull Campus and family physician, Dr. Kwatra. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland, OH, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 2, 2010. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Roberts Catholic Church, Cortland, OH, at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 3, 2010. Rev. Carl Kish will be officiating. Interment will be at Sager Memorial Cemetery in Bristolville, OH.
