Clarence E Battison

Champion: Clarence Edwin Battison, 92, passed away on Saturday, January 13th, 2018, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born April 3rd, 1925, in Warren, Ohio. The son of Edward and Helen Owens Battison. Youngest of five children. He graduated from Howland High School in 1943. He Enlisted in the Navy 1943 - 1945. Stationed at: Great Lakes, Memphis, Tenn., Purcell, Okla., and Cecill Field, Jacksonville, Fla. He received training as a gunner/radio operator and served as a gunner on a Dauntless DB5, dive-bomber. Served aboard the Carrier Franklin Delano Roosevelt serving on both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Achieved the rank of ARM 2nd Class/Gunner - Radio Navigator. In 1947 he married Joan Howk, of Johnston. They were married for 62 years. He is survived by four children, twins Edward (Alice) Battison, of Cortland and Betty (Tom) Williams of Hartford, John (Kathy) of Hartford, Terry (Kim) of Electra, Texas, nine grand and ten great-grandchildren. He also survived by his sister, Doris Pealer. He was a carpenter his entire life. He has his own construction, building many houses in the area. He also worked out of the Carpenters Local 1438, in Warren, OH. In 1972 he began working as a carpenter at Packard Electric in Warren. He retired from there in 1989. He had a love for hunting and fishing, which he handed down to his two oldest sons and two oldest grandsons. He and his wife loved to travel and camp. He was a member of the Johnson VFW Post 7614, where he served as commander. He was the last surviving Charter member. He also served as the Trumbull County Commander of the VFW. He belonged to the American Legion Post 540. He was a member of the Cortland Masonic Lodge 529. He was member of the Valley of Youngstown Scottish Rites - 32 Degree. He member of the Johnson Federated United Methodist Church since 1955. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan, his parents, three brothers, Edward, Milford, Thomas (Bud), and a grandson, Andrew James Battison. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am, Monday, January 22, 2018 at Lane Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, Cortland. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial at Johnson Township Cemetery.
