Daniel David Olson, 62, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully at The Cleveland Clinic on Thursday, October 31st, from pneumonia and undiagnosed esophageal cancer.
He was born July 10th, 1962 in Youngstown to Norman Lee and Rebecca Ann (Coffelt) Olson.
"Dano", as he liked to be called, had a great curiosity of Life. After graduation, he joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. When he was done with that adventure, he came home to Ashtabula until embarking on a journey to Texas where he received his U.S. Merchant Marine Officer License to Master Coastal Steam or Motor Vessels up to 100 gross tons, where he would deliver supplies to offshore oil rigs. Danny, as we called him, then went to Louisiana and spent time with his Uncle David and Aunt Cheri where he and David shared a love of hunting. He was then off to Florida where he worked in the HVAC industry and finally returned to Ashtabula.
Dano loved music. He enjoyed playing his guitars and drums at home for fun. Fishing was one of his passions as well as hiking through the woods, watching NASCAR like his father, and playing disc golf with his brother Indio.
The biggest and most tender heart he had. He loved all animals, especially many dogs over the years. His latest faithful companion Jerri, is missing him terribly.
Daniel is survived by his father Norman, of Mineral Ridge, his brother Indio Robert Coffelt, of Santa Rosa, CA, his sister Michelle Olson, of Ashtabula, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is met in Heaven by his mother Rebecca Coffelt Capp, who passed on January 3, 2024, and we are sure this reunion was a joyous one as he loved his Mom with all his heart, and she, him; his paternal grandparents, Adam B. and Esther (Riffel) Olson; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Berniece (Lally) Coffelt; and many of his beloved pets.
In accordance with the wishes of the family there will be no funeral services or calling hours. A memorial service honoring Danny’s life will be held in the Spring of 2025.
Donations in his name may be made to any animal protection league or rescue.
Arrangements for Mr. Olson are being provided by the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel, 1350 N. Canfield-Niles Rd., Mineral Ridge.
