Darleen G. Kubuj, age 90, died Monday, January 22, 2018 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Darleen was born May 4, 1927 in Mecca Township to the late William R. and Cora (Cooper) Grove. She was a 1945 graduate of Mecca High School. She was an active and devout member of the West Mecca United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School to the pre-school age kids for many years. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Childrens Conservation League. She enjoyed making crafts, and was fond of crafting with a group. Darleen loved children, she enjoyed everything about them. She had a wonderful special relationship with her only grandson. Darleen worked for Ohio Lamp when she was first married, she also worked for Lou Wollam Chevrolet in the office and retired from Microswitch in Illinois. Besides her parents, Darleen is preceded in death by her husband Eddie Kubuj, who she married May 28, 1949, he died October 4, 2014; her granddaughter Marissa Franks, her sisters Roberta Moore, Patricia Hines, and Eris Ilie; brothers George "Esmond" Grove, and William H. Grove. Darleen leaves her two daughters, Elaine (Larry) Franks of Cortland and Marcia Kubuj of Warren, her beloved grandson Matthew Franks of Cortland, sisters Violet Childs of Mantua and Beryl Francis of Mecca, sister-in-law Martha Grove, and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Friends may call 4-7PM Friday at the Lane Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High St. in Cortland. Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday at the funeral Home with Pastor Ron McIlvaine officiant. Interment Crown Hill Burial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren Family Mission.
