David L. Smith was born February 13, 1946 and passed away at his home in Orlando, Florida on August 16, 2018. He was 72 years old. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Lawrence and Emma Watkins Smith and was raised in Vienna, Ohio. He graduated from Matthews High School in 1964. He was a proud United States Air Force veteran serving one year of overseas duty in Taiwan during the Vietnam war. He graduated from the University of South Florida and worked for National and Pan American Airlines. When Pan American began to downsize he followed the job for as long as he could working in New York and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He finally decided he missed his family too much and gave up the job. He went to work at Inland Container in Orlando where he became a supervisor. Down sized again, he became the warehouse distributor for the Florida Department of Transportation where he retired in 2011. His strong work ethic and desire to always do everything to perfection made him a very valuable employee. He always did his best and expected the same from the employees he trained and supervised. He loved to teach and encourage them to be the best they could be. He was a dedicated family man who taught and coached his daughters in softball and life. He was always ready to share his knowledge and advice. He gave his very best to everything and everyone whose life he touched. He lovingly cared for his wife through two very serious cancers. He attended and loved his church on the lake, Central Florida Drive-In Worship Service. Towards the end of his life he had to deal with illness but continued to live every day to the fullest and never lost that special "Dave" sense of humor enjoyed by all who knew and loved him. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 43 years; Sandra Carver Smith and his daughters and special sons: Heather Ensign Lacy (Bryan) and Holly Ensign Reese (Jason) and his sidekick Brutus Buckeye. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Even though he loved them all, his remains will remain in his beloved Florida. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel where friends may call from 1 to 2 PM.
