David M. Conkey, 51, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 29, 2020 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
David was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 11, 1968, the son of Lewis and Judith (Johnson) Conkey. He was a 1986 Bishop Ready High School graduate and went on to attend Columbus State Community College. David moved to Austintown in 2006 to marry the love of his life, Karen (Daff) Conkey.
David was in the gasoline industry for over 30 years starting at Reliable Oil and continuing on with Bazel Oil Company, Petro-Com Corp., Sheetz Inc. and was currently employed as a service technician for Bolger Brothers, Inc., out of Altoona PA. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown for the past 15 years, the (NHRA) National Hot Rod Association, and (IHRA) International Hot Rod Association for numerous years.
David truly lived for his family and was the most devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Whether you called him “Dave,” “Uncle Dude,” “Big Dave,” “Big Dog,” “Big D,” or “Conkey” know that he loved you with all his heart. He enjoyed working on and drag racing his Camaros and Chevelles through the years, boating and fishing at Lake Erie, and vacationing with his wife at the beach. Most of all, having a good time with his family and friends was a priority.
David leaves behind his wife Karen (Daff) Conkey who he married on June 17, 2006; a sister Kelley Billups (Don) of Columbus, OH; a sister-in-law, Donna Hillen (Gary) of Macedonia, OH; a brother-in-law Richard Daff (Julie) of Aurora, OH; six nieces and a nephew, Katie, Emily, and Megan Garbrandt, Karlie and Drew Daff and Kayla and Savannah Barko. David also left behind his parents Lewis and Judith (Johnson) Conkey who followed him in death on March 31, 2020.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents William and Harriet (Roper) Johnson and Lewis and Edith (Hashman) Conkey.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of David’s life will take place at a later date. David’s final resting place will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown, OH. Family and friends are encouraged to express their thoughts of sympathy at lanefuneralhomes.com.
