David Page Powell

David Page Powell, age 84, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at The Ganzhorn Suites in Columbus, Ohio after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. David was born February 9, 1933 in Warren to the late Roger and Helen (Seger) Powell. He was, at heart, a lifelong Boy Scout. Achieving the rank of Eagle scout, he would give years supporting the organization in many roles, including Scout Master. Along with three brothers, David was a member of Operating Engineers Local 66. With his brother Lee, David founded, owned and operated Ridge Ranch Campgrounds in Newton Falls OH for 10 years. He would then attend Youngstown State and receive two degrees. A B.S. in Education -where he graduated cum laude and in 1987 a Master of Science in Education. He taught Science for 25 years at the H.C.Mines Elementary School in Howland, where he also taught ceramics. After his retirement in 1990, he continued making ceramics, enjoyed traveling with his wife, feeding birds and squirrels, biking around the neighborhood and looking for beach glass at Lake Erie. David was an active member of Central Christian Church in Warren. He was elected a Trustee and volunteered for church functions regularly. David is survived and will be forever missed by his children; David King (Patricia) Powell of Newport, OR., James Robert (Barbara) Powell of Lebanon, OH., Jeffrey Lee (Marcia) Powell of Youngstown, OH., Scott Thomas (Regina) Powell of Powell, OH., and Susan Lee (Richard) Watkins of Salem, OH. Also mourning his passing are his 10 grandchildren, Brian, Anna, Jeffrey, Sarah, Jennifer, Bethany, Rebecca, Matthew, Christopher, Stephanie, his 4 great grandchildren, Kamaron, Colin, Gavin, Francis, two sisters, Patricia Yencer and Jeannie Wright both of Tustin, CA., and two brothers, Lee Powell and Richard (Bernie) Powell both of Newton Falls, OH. Besides his parents, David is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Nadine (King) Powell, who he married February 28, 1953; his son Mark Powell, brothers Roger, Nelson, Donald, and sister Nancy. Pastor Ty Sabella will conduct a funeral service Friday, May 26, 2017 at 6PM at the Lane Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren. Family and friends may visit for 2 hours prior to the funeral, beginning at 4PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
