Dianne Lee Russell Schmitt, 53 of Champion Township, passed away on Monday evening, August 7, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital, from complications of a brain injury received in a recent fall. She was born April 2, 1964 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania the daughter of David W. and Frances Elizabeth Lee Russell Sr. She had been a Trumbull county resident most of her life. Dianne was a 1982 graduate of Champion High School and attended Kent State Trumbull Campus and the University of Cincinnati. She worked as a home caregiver and was a well respected aquatics instructor throughout the area being certified through the American Red Cross, teaching lifeguarding and swimming classes. She had taught water aerobics, water zumba and zumba classes. She was a member of Champion Presbyterian Church, where many years ago she had served as the children's choir director. She attended the Kinsman Chapel of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church for several years. Dianne enjoyed photography, yoga, gardening and horseback riding and especially enjoyed riding her horse, Penny Lane. She loved animals and had a special passion for working with children and caring for the elderly. Dianne is survived by her husband, Fred Schmitt, whom she married March 3, 2017; her parents, David and Fran Russell of Champion; her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Russell of Cleveland; three stepdaughters, Calli Schmitt of Cortland, Angela (Mike) Hanek of Johnston and Kate Sanders of Columbus; one stepson, Erich Schmitt of Cortland; two brothers, Edward J. Russell of Warren and David W. Russell Jr. of Bazetta; three grandchildren, Hannah, Emma Kae and Christopher Hanek; nieces and nephews, Katie (Eric) Gnagey and their children Lucy and Jack, Allison (Nick) Weber and their children Brooklyn and Nick, Emily and George Russell, Dana (Justin) Barker and Hudson, David Russell III and Thomas (Alex) Russell and her beloved aunts and uncles, Nancy Herring, Mary Jen Mullen, Margaret Halavick, Sandra Double, Flo Kitis, George, Thomas and Harry Lee and John Russell. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 at the Champion Presbyterian Church and also for one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service on Saturday at the church, with Pastor Steve Stelle officiating. Burial will be at Champion Township Cemetery in Champion. Arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel.
