Donald R. Damicone, age 79, of Canfield, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Born on May 14, 1944 in Bedford, Ohio, son of the late Renato “Raymond” E. and Angeline M. (nee Caniglia) Damicone. Loving father of Amy (Frederick) Beike, Dana Parry, and Jason (Tracy) Damicone; cherished grandpa of Joseph Beike, Jessica (Alexander Spaulding) Beike, Nicolas Beike, Marco Parry, and Sydney Damicone; dear brother of James (Diane) Damicone, uncle and great-uncle.
Don graduated from Bedford High School (’62) where he wrestled. His strong work ethic began at an early age delivering newspapers and telegrams. After graduation, Don furthered his education and completed an apprenticeship as a Tool & Die maker working at Bedford Gear, Noble & Stanton, and Fisher Body Clinton Rd. He accepted a transfer to the Lordstown Fisher Body facility as a pattern maker and subsequently moved his family to Canfield in 1971. He retired in 2006 as an expediter for General Motors, where his books always balanced to the penny.
Don loved to talk and relished a lively discussion. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the Tuesday Bunch, GM breakfast, and the annual Soiree on Lake Erie. Don was an avid outdoorsman - if he was not out working in his yard, he was fishing, hunting, or golfing. His fish tales were never tales - yes, yes he did catch a 380 lb. blue marlin in Pompano Beach! At the age of 50, he learned to ski and went on several skiing trips. Always one to appreciate a sporting event, he was a dedicated fan of the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Ohio State Buckeyes. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family; attending various sports and academic activities, coaching baseball, Indian Guides, and chauffeuring his daughters’ Girl Scout troop around Lakeside. Don enjoyed many years playing golf with his son Jason in the Argus Golf League. His family will miss his stories, wisdom, and homemade wedding soup.
Don was a devoted Free Mason his entire adult life. In 1982, he served as Worshipful Master of Argus Lodge 545 F&AM. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, past high priest Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio Salem Chapter 94, and past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star Lamplight Chapter 582. He was a lifetime member of the Youngstown Pistol and Gun Club and a member of Salem Commandery No. 42 Knights Templar, Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio Omega Council 44, O.E.M. Miriam Chapter 278, Aut Mori, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Ruth Shrine No. 64 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Bedford Historical Society, Canfield Methodist Church, and St. Mary Church in Bedford.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Eugene, infant niece Annette Damicone, and caring former spouse Mary Susan (nee Brott) McCullough.
