Donald "Donnie" L. Smail

Donald "Donnie" L. Smail, 62, of Austintown, passed away on March 8, 2019, surrounded by his family, at St. Elizabeths in Youngstown. Donnie was born May 20, 1956 in Kenmore, New York, the son of the late Donald E. and Ruth Ann (Boyer) Smail. Donnie was a 1974 graduate of Chaney High School, where he played football. Donnie earned his Journeyman Machinist and Tool & Die certification from Mahoning County Joint Vocational School. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a machinist for over 40 years. Donnie loved the outdoors and spent much of his time camping, fishing, watching his children participate in sports and playing with his grandchildren. He loved traveling and spending time with his family. Donnie is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Pogany) Smail, whom he married September 22, 1979; his children Heather McMasters of Austintown, Matthew (Renee) Smail of Canfield, and Joshua (Ashley) Smail of Austintown; his siblings Steve (Yvonne) Smail of New Mexico, Michael (Steven Preston) of Michigan, and Lisa (Jerry) Little of Austintown; his grandchildren Jacob, Nora, Colt, Liam, Brynlee, Grant; and his four grand dogs. He was a very proud Papa. The family will receive relatives and friends on March 12, 2019 from 3:00 PM- 7:00 PM at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
