CORTLAND- Donald E. Young, age 91, passed away peacefully April 16, 2019 at the Hospice House in Poland surrounded by his family. Donald was born March 14, 1928 in West Monterey, Pennsylvania to the late James and Gertrude (Keefer) Young. He was a graduate of Parker High School. He was a Railroad Superintendent for over 42 years retiring in 1988 from P&LE Railroad. In his career he worked for Penn Central, Pennsylvania Railroad, New York Central, Norfolk Southern and Conrail. Don was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Mason, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and riding his lawn mower. In his younger years, Don was a private pilot and drove race cars; He enjoyed Golf, Baseball, and Football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He was a faithful member of Cortland United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee. Besides his parents, Don is preceded in death by his wife, the former Betty E. Clawson, they married August 5, 1952, she died December 8, 2014; his son Joe Young, brothers Robert and James Young, grandson Billy Jones, great-grandson Noah Marker, and sons-in-law Walter Hughes and Joe Warminski. He is survived by his children, Mike (Carol) Young, Jim Young, Gale Hughes, Sally Kobel, and Barb (Barry) Preston; eleven grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Liz, Karl, Jennifer, Tiffany, Nick, Joey, Allison, Amy, and Raleigh; nine great-grandchildren, and a sister Joanne Singer. Friends may call 3-5PM Saturday, April 20th, at the Lane Funeral Home, Shafer-Winans Chapel 164 N. High St. in Cortland, where the funeral service will begin at 5PM with Pastor David Vensel Officiant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cortland United Methodist Church, 155 N. High St. Cortland, Ohio 44410
