Warren

Donna Kellogg Hampton departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 29, 2024. She passed peacefully surrounded with the love of her family and friends.

Donna was the middle child, she was born August 26, 1929 in Warren, Ohio to the late Hazel C. Zeigler and Dwane J. Kellogg.

Donna was a descendant of the Gildersleeve family who were early settlers of Gustavus, Ohio.

She grew up on Laird Avenue in Warren and graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in June 1947 where she was a member of Sub Deb Girl’s Club.

Donna was a Desk Clerk in Production Control at Packard Electric in Plant 6 for 6 years. This is where she met Jack D. Hampton, he worked upstairs as a Time Keeper in Payroll. They married September 19, 1953, at Second Christian Church. They were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary before Jack’s passing on January 25, 2005.

Donna was a devoted homemaker; while raising her children, she worked in the kitchen at McGuffey School. It was the perfect job as she loved to cook; this was back in the day when all the food was homemade. Donna transferred to Garfield School where she became the head cook. When Warren City Schools consolidated their kitchens, she worked at Central Kitchen, retiring in 1991 after 27 years of service.

Donna encouraged all the students as she did with her children to clean their plates because of the starving children living overseas, she carried this trait over to her fellow residents at Shepherd of the Valley.

Donna was featured as one of The Great Cooks with Warren Tribune Chronicle where her apple crisp recipe was featured, family favorite recipes were corn bread with pinto beans & banana pudding.

Donna was a community minded person as she was a volunteer and member of several organizations; PTO Emerson Elementary School; Class Reunion Committee; Warren Women’s Club - Trustee; Warren Music Club; and AFSCME – Treasurer. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several 500 Card Clubs, bowling leagues and playing Golf with her husband and in several local golf leagues.

She was passionate about her lawn and decorating her home. Donna grew up knowing the value of hard work and good friendships and she shared this quality with everyone.

Donna’s Love Language was cooking, one of her greatest joys were entertaining, cooking and baking for family and friends. She hosted holiday Christmas parties at her home for all of her Card Clubs and other Clubs to which she belonged. Donna’s passion was trying new recipes and making pies from scratch; rhubarb; apple; pumpkin and elderberry were among her best. If a visit was planned, she would surely begin preparing a nice meal.

From a young age, Donna, was a faithful and active member of Second Christian Church on West Market Street in Warren. She devoted much time and energy serving as an Elder, President of CWF, Chairperson of Bereavement Dinners, Quilter and Sunday School Teacher. She rarely missed a Sunday morning service. She provided an example to follow, faithfulness matters more than skill and was a rich blessing to her church.

Donna was well known for her fundraiser of Ham loaf dinners for many organizations for Second Christian Church.

When Second Christian Church closed, she transferred her membership to Central Christian Church.

Donna was quick witted; it was quite an accomplishment to make her speechless. When she met you, it was your pleasure and she would tell you. She loved to joke and laugh.

Above all else, Donna, Mom, Grandma, Great Gram, Aunt Donna was a loving person and cherished every minute spent with her family and friends. Her love of friends and neighbors was surpassed only by an unyielding and faithful devotion to her family.
