Lake Milton, Ohio - Dorothy Jean Gilmer Stroup, 91, passed away Sunday April 25, 2021.
Dorothy was born March 8, 1930 in Centerville, Tennessee.
At the age of 12 she moved with her family to Champion, Ohio. Dorothy later worked at Green Cross Hospital in Warren and this is where she met her future husband, Charles Stroup.
Charles and Dorothy married Dec. 7, 1948. They had 4 children. She was a homemaker till her children were grown. Dorothy then joined her husband as a semi-truck co-driver. Together they drove cross country for many years until they decided to retire.
They were married for 72 years. She was always there for her family and was a loving mother, grandmother, great and great great grandmother. She loved planting flowers, crafts, music, writing poems and songs. One song was made into a record called “Wonder”. Living by the lake gave her the opportunity to enjoy boating and fishing with her family and friends. She will truly be missed.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Charles Stroup, sons: Robert (Belinda) Stroup, Rodney Stroup, daughter: Regina Stroup Amodio Stevens. Grandchildren: Michele (Richard) Spencer, Melissa (Tom) Loyen, Robert Stroup Jr., Peter (Roslynn) Amodio Jr., Rodney (Angela) Stroup Jr., Cindy (Jason) Brew. Great Grandchildren: Kyle Stroup, Britney Spencer, Briana, Jasmine, Jewel Loyen, Jenna and Lauren Amodio, Valerie Stroup, Kali Sabastian, Ralph Bloom, Fritzy Brew. Great Great Grandson: Isaac Stroup. Many nieces and nephews. Siblings: Kenneth Gilmer Sr. and Doris Gilmer.
She was proceeded in death by her son, Charles James Stroup Jr., grandson, Eric Amodio, parents Carl (Nellie) McKnight Gilmer, siblings, Georgia Moore, Shirley Burnett, Carl Gilmer Jr, sister-in-law, Joann Gilmer.
Private services were held with burial at North Jackson Cemetery.
