Douglas D. Broderick

Douglas D. Broderick, 67, of Austintown, passed away early Thursday morning, October 31, 2024, at Hospice House of Poland, after a long battle with cancer. Born on November 13, 1956, in Youngstown, he was the son of the late Gary and Shirley (Reardon) Broderick.

Doug graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1975 and attended Youngstown State University. A proud Eagle Scout, he dedicated nearly 45 years of his career as an HVAC mechanic at St. Elizabeth Hospital, retiring in January 2020. He was a former trustee and served as chief shop steward for Teamsters Local #377 at the hospital.

Doug was an active member of the St. George Croatian Club, the Youngstown Maennerchor, and the AMA Club. His commitment to community service was evident in his involvement with the Ohio Disaster Medical Assistance Team, where he served as Logistics Chief and later as Commander, coordinating teams for hurricane response efforts.

A lover of the outdoors, Doug cherished trips to Geneva-on-the-Lake and enjoyed hunting adventures with friends in Tionesta, PA. Above all, he treasured the time spent with his family.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Melody L. Shodeen, whom he married on February 3, 1989; their four sons, Michael (Erin) Broderick of Boardman, Christopher (Chrissie) Broderick of Poland, Andrew (Liz) Broderick of Austintown, and Alexander Broderick of Akron; and five grandchildren, Nathanial, Ella, Colton, Aliyana, and Amelia. He also leaves behind his brother, Gary (Lori) Broderick of Grafton, OH and extended family members and friends who were touched by his warmth and kindness.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 12th, at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, from 6:00 PM until 6:45 PM, followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM.

Doug will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
