Edward Curtis Cluse, 80, of Niles, Ohio, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 4, 2024.
Born on November 16, 1943, Ed was the son of Curtis and Margaret Cluse. A 1961 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, Ed proudly served four years in the United States Air Force. After his military duty, he worked at Reactive Metals, National Gypsum, and Republic Steel while attending Youngstown State University.
Edward was a UAW Local 1112 Autoworker at the General Motors Van and Assembly Plant at Lordstown for 32 years. His last 12 years at Lordstown, he was appointed as the Coordinator of Training and Education for UAW International. He retired in 1999.
Edward was a past Mineral Ridge Football Athletic Boosters president and helped establish the Edward “E.Z.” Whitaker Memorial and Scholarship Funds.
Edward was an avid golfer who was instrumental in starting the UAW Bogey Brothers Golf Outing. After his retirement, Ed worked at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Hubbard. He loved his time belonging to many golf leagues and was especially proud of his hole-in-one at Linden Hall Golf Course with many of his friends. He was the biggest Boston Red Sox fan and made the trip to Fenway Stadium to watch his beloved Red Sox.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rita Jean Knight and his brother William John Cluse. He is also preceded in death by his first wife Cheryl Ann (James), whom he married in 1966.
Edward is survived by his wife Virginia Lee, whom he married in 1989; his children Mark (Amy) Cluse of Westfield Center, Ohio, Michael Cluse of Niles, and Matthew (Julie) Cluse of Mineral Ridge; his stepchildren Michael (Lisa) Mangino of Dublin, Ohio and Marc (Melissa) Mangino of Trinity, Florida; his sister Janice Carol Bundy of Niles; and his grandchildren Jessica, Jerry, Joey, Tyler, Meredith, Aidan, Vincent, Curtis, and Micah.
The family will receive relatives and guests on Monday, July 15 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
