Elizabeth “Betty” Burnett (Liposchak), 101, of Youngstown passed away peacefully on July 31st, 2024 at the Victoria House. She was born July 8th,1923 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter to the late Joseph Liposchak and Sophia (Bartolovich) Liposchak. Betty was a graduate of East High School and went on to marry the love of her life, Albert R. Burnett, on February 22nd, 1950.
Betty was a homemaker extraordinaire, with talent in gardening, baking, canning, but especially in spreading happiness to her family. Betty and Al spent their years raising 3 children, whom they enjoyed taking fishing and eventually bought land near Pymatuning Lake in Williamsfield, Ohio. It was here they cleared the land and built a home, with the help of friends and family, and lived here for 40 years. Once the family was grown and Al retired from the P&LE Railroad, Betty and Al joined the Tamburitzans with the St. George Croatian Home. They performed at various Croatian Extravaganzas with the Tamburitza group Od Srce. Betty and Al enjoyed traveling with Father Hogan of Andover, Ohio on bus trips all over the country, loved taking cruises and visiting casinos.
Betty was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church for many years and resided at the Victoria House Assisted Living for the last 7 years where everyone from the staff to the residents loved her. She participated in all the games, music, and was a Scrabble Queen. Betty was an avid reader and had her bright mind all the way up until her passing. Grandma Betty was adored by all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she loved spending time with her family.
Betty is survived by her children, Ray (Julianne) Burnett and Patty McHenry; a sister, Frances Prystash; as well as her grandchildren, John (Jhe) Lisko, Michael (Jen) Lisko, Ryan (Leslie) McHenry, Sean (Christina) McHenry, Trisha (Jake) Elmer, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter; Sandra K. Lisko, as well as 8 sisters and a brother.
The children would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Victoria House Assisted Living for their loving care of their mother and a heartfelt thank you to Harmony Hospice for her final comfort care.
Friends and family may call from 10:30 to 11am and attend services for Betty on Friday August 16th, 2024 at 11am at Lane Funeral Home Austintown.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to St. George Croatian Center in Betty’s name.
