Elizabeth "Betty" Rose Wood

Elizabeth “Betty” Rose Wood, 90, of Youngstown, Ohio passed away peacefully on December 25th, 2024. She was born on July 29th,1934 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late George “Bud” Cox and Lillian Cox and was a 1952 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, where she was majorette there and for the Warren Junior Military Band.

Betty married the love of her life, Donald G. Wood Sr., on October 30th,1954 with whom she would raise 4 children and spend 70 years together, creating a life full of love and memories. She was a bus driver for Austintown Local Schools for nearly 25 years, a member of Mineral Ridge Christian Church, and played in the 500 card club throughout her life.

Betty had a love of traveling, having visited all 50 states, as well as camping, spending as much time as possible at the cottage by the lake that her father built. Don and Betty often took afternoon drives exploring Ohio without any real destination in mind. She was also a knitter and crocheter, often creating gifts for others.

Betty was also a dog lover, bringing up her Cocker Spaniel, Inky, from her childhood, to several mixed breeds including Susie, Ginger, Coco, and Rags, to her Golden Retrievers Xannie and Sammy. She also loved many of her grandchildren’s dogs, referring to them as her “grand dogs”.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents.

Betty is survived by her husband, Donald, her brother George “Ted” Cox, her children, Don (Kathy) of Salem, OH, Dan (Mimi) of Ravenna, OH, Ed of Austintown, and Dee of Stow, OH. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lauren, Michael, Lillian (Jake Emery), Isaac, Phoebe and Allison; and great grandchildren, Ruth and Remi.

Family and friends may call on Friday, January 3rd, 2025 from 11am to 1pm at Lane Funeral Home-Austintown Chapel, with a service to follow.
