Ellen Frederick

Mrs. Frederick passed away Friday morning, August 2, 2002, of an apparent heart attack , while attending the PT boat reunion with her husband and family in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born June 20, 1925 in Uniontown, PA the daughter of Joseph and Inez (Cuccini) Veronese. She lived to help others. A member of the Canfield Christian Church for 48 years, she served the church and the Lord by teaching Bible study and Sunday school, serving as a deaconess and member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. Her church family was a major focus of her life. Ellen was a 27 year breast cancer survivor and gave unstintingly of her time to spread the message of hope to other cancer patients through the American Cancer Society Listening Post and a host of other volunteer activities. She served on the American Cancer Society Board of Directors for 20 years and co-chaired the ACS exhibit at the Canfield Fair. She was a member of the FOCUS Breast Cancer Support Group, Kids can Cope Too and Relay for Life. A resident of Canfield since 1954, Ellen was active in the Community buy serving in the following organizations: Canfield Community Care Net, Canfield Community Chest, National Cancer Survivor’s Day Committee, the Silver Lining Cancer Fund, the Mahoning Valley Ulster Project, and Canfield T.O.P.S. She received the American Cancer Society Volunteer of the Year Award in 1987 and the ACS Woman of the year award in 1989. She was named YMCA Woman of the Year in 1991 and received the JCPenney Golden Rule award in 1997. Ellen is survived by her beloved husband Attorney Harry Frederick ; as son, H. Darren Frederick, and two daughters: Karyn Frederick and Anne Frederick Crawford, and son-in-law Scott Crawford. She also leaves a brother Ideal Veronesi of New Eagle, PA. Friends may call at the Lane Funeral Home in Canfield on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at the Canfield Christian Church at 10:30 A.M.
