There will be a memorial mass for close friends and family at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at St.Charles Catholic Church for Eugene J. (Gene) Lewis, 79 of Poland who passed away at his home Tuesday afternoon with his family by his side. He was born on October 7, 1932 in Youngstown, the son of the late George and Veronica McCann Lewis. Gene was co-owner of a local business, International Dies for 36 years, until his retirement in 1992. Afterwards, he started another company, Calco, Inc. in which he was still actively running. He was a graduate of East High School, class of 1951, and attended Youngstown College. He was a member of St. Charles Church. Above golf, he mostly enjoyed spending time with his family, while attempting to attend as many activities he could for his 15 grandchildren. He also had a passion for helping people and exemplifying strong ethic in everything he did. Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, the former Carol A. Slack whom he married July 21, 1962; daughters Renee J. (James) Webber of Youngstown, Lisa M.( Ron) Mangie of Canfield, Charlene D. (Jeff) Lewis-Lovesee of Kinsman, Ohio, Deanna L. (Marlin) Lewis-Dummitt of Mount Vernon, Ohio and his son, Gregory C. (Josephine) Lewis of Columbia, Maryland. Surviving siblings are sisters, Mary (Charles) McGowen of Pennsylvania, Joan (David) Younkin of California and brothers, Gerald (Cecelia) Lewis of Boardman, George (Yao Fang) Lewis of Minnesota and David (Margaret) of Florida. The twinkle in Gene's eye were always brought about by his 15 surviving grandchildren, Chelsie Lewis, Gene Lewis, Taylor Lewis, Tyler Lewis, Jason Webber, Nichole Webber, Ronnie Mangie, Mitchell Mangie, Angelina Mangie, Mirabella Mangie, Erica Lovesee, Samantha Lovesee, Jessica Lovesee, Josephine Lewis and Carter Lewis. Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a son, Eugene J. Lewis, Jr. who died in 1996. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Gene's honor to Help Hotline Crisis Center, P.O. Box 46, Youngstown, OH 44501, MVI Hospice , 4891 Belmont Ave., Youngstown or to the American Cancer Society.
